As we begin a new school year, I’ve been thinking about the people I met during my first month as superintendent. I’ve enjoyed talking with families & staff and getting to know our Rockford community. But during these conversations, I heard the same question.

What if?

What if more students came to school every day? What if every student felt safe, supported, and ready to learn? What if families knew their voices mattered?

Sometimes, "what if" sounds like a wish. It can feel like something that is too hard to reach. But I believe "what if" is where great things begin. Those two words remind us to think in new ways, work together, and keep moving forward. They remind us that we all have a part to play.

The questions are important, but what we do next is even more important.

To our students: Come to school every day ready to learn. Ask questions. Try your best. If you need help, speak up. There are people in every school who care about you and want you to succeed.

To our staff: Thank you for everything you do. You help students learn, grow, and feel like they belong. Whether you teach in a classroom, drive a bus, serve meals, greet families, or support our schools in other ways, you make a difference every day.

To our families: Thank you for trusting us with your children. Please keep talking with us. Share your ideas, your questions, and your concerns. We will listen, work with you, and do our best to support your family.

To our community partners: Thank you for standing with our schools. Your time, support, and kindness help our students dream bigger and reach higher.

This year is full of new opportunities. So, what if this is the year we turn ideas into action? What if this is the year we grow stronger together? I believe it can be. Welcome back, and let's make this a great school year.
